How do you know if your AirPods have reduced battery life? AirPods make a sound in your ears to let you know when there is about 15% battery charge left.
However, waiting for the sound is not the only option you have. You can control the battery life of AirPods in several ways. The information in this article applies to original AirPods, 2nd generation AirPods, and AirPod Professionals.
Since the AirPods case charges headphones, it can be easy to forget that you need to charge the case every once in a while. Checking battery life is a good reminder to put the box in the charging slot every once in a while.
- Move the bag closer to the phone and open the lid.
- On the Home screen or Lock screen of the iPhone, an image appears showing the battery life for each AirPod individually, as a pair if it is in use or in the box.
Opening the lid on the AirPod case when an app is open on iPhone does not trigger the battery life pop-up screen. When you open the cover of the case, your iPhone must be on the Home screen or Lock screen.
- Close the case cover and the pop-up screen disappears.
How to See AirPod Battery Status from Lock Screen?
You can also control the battery life of AirPods from the Lock screen widget. Using the Widget shows both the AirPods and the case, depending on which items are within range. Widget also appears if AirPods are charging. To control battery life using the lock screen widget, swipe down from the top of the iPhone screen to open Notification Center, and then swipe to see the Batteries widget.
If your phone is unlocked and on the Home screen, swipe right to see all active widgets. If you don't see the Batteries widget, scroll to the bottom and tap . Edit. Then tap green + adjacent, next to Batteries to add batteries widgets. The Batteries widget shows devices such as iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods.
How to Control AirPods Battery Status on Apple Watch
You can not only control your AirPods from your iPhone, but also control battery life from your Apple Watch. You can only see the battery life of your AirPod on Apple Watch if they're connected to your iPhone or directly to the watch.
- Swipe up on the Apple Watch dial to go to the Control Center.
- Tap Apple Watch. battery life icon. If your AirPods are in your ears or the case cover is open, the Apple Watch screen will show the battery life of each device.
- Scroll down to see each of the AirPods and the listed case.
- Press Digital Crown to return home. You can only see the battery life of your AirPod on Apple Watch if they're connected to your iPhone or directly to the watch.
