NWS issues tornado watch for Sabine, Shelby, San Augustine counties



NWS issues tornado watch for Sabine, Shelby, San Augustine counties Laura is now a strong category 4 hurricane and still could become a CAT 5 storm before making landfall early Thursday morning. Winds were detected as high as 155 MPH from the Hurricane Hunters aircraft back on Wednesday evening. She is expected to continue to produce hurricane force winds until Thursday afternoon. She is a fast moving storm, so catastrophic flooding, like what we saw from Hurricane Harvey is not expected. But a deadly storm surge and extreme winds are likely overnight Wednesday along the gulf coast.

The National Weather Service has issued TORNADO WATCHES for the following counties until Thursday, Aug. 27 at 8 a.m.:

  • Sabine 
  • San Augustine 
  • Shelby
