Which iPhones Will Get iOS 15 Update?
Which iPhones will get iOS 15 and which won't get iOS 15? Most Android phones released in 2015 have now lost support for system updates. Even Google's own Pixel phones are being cut off from the update after three years. For example, the Pixel 2 has moved to Android 10 and will lose support after next month's update. Devices that came with Android 8 in 2017 have been updated to Android 9, 10 and 11 in the last three years.
Apple is doing a great job keeping its older models up to date. Apple, for example, has included 2017's iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus among the models eligible to be updated to iOS 14 this year. Of course, there is a big difference between the 16nm A9 chipset in the iPhone 6s series and the 5nm A14 Bionic chipset that runs the iPhone 12 models. In other words, many of the new features available in iOS 14 do not work as they do with newer models on iPhone 6s.
A new claim is that iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus and iPhone SE will not receive iOS 15. SE is the original "budget" iOS phone released in 2016. This means that next year iOS 15 will be available for iPhone 7 and above. If the leak is true, the iPhones that will receive the iOS 15 update are as follows:
- iPhone 13 series
- iPhone 12 Pro Max
- iPhone 12 Pro
- iPhone 12 mini
- iPhone 12
- iPhone 11
- iPhone 11 Pro
- iPhone 11 Pro Max
- iPhone XS
- iPhone XS Max
- iPhone XR
- iPhone X
- iPhone 8
- iPhone 8 Plus
- iPhone 7
- iPhone 7 Plus
- iPhone SE (2nd generation)
- iPod touch (7th generation)
You may want to wait for the official announcement before deciding to replace your iPhone 6s. The source had previously correctly predicted that the iPhone 5s and iPhone 6 series would not be updated after iOS 12.
iOS 15 will be announced at WWDC 2021. The first public beta version of iOS 14 was released on July 9, which means we will be able to see the first public beta version of iOS 15 released at about the same time next year.
