Apple shuts down its popular app
In 2020, Apple bought Dark Sky, the application famous for accurate weather forecasts. As a result, the tech giant has closed the app's access from Android devices. Shortly after its acquisition, Dark Sky, the most downloaded weather app on iPhones, was removed from the App Store in September. Today, Apple has completely closed the Dark Sky app. In other words, it will no longer be possible to access the application from the phones that are installed. Technology giant Apple is directing its users to another own application instead of Dark Sky.
Dark Sky application, as the name suggests, has become famous for accurately predicting the times when there is rainfall. For this reason, it was preferred by many Apple customers. Apple's features included in Dark Sky have been added to its own Weather app. In this way the application became stronger than in its previous form.
At the beginning of last month, Apple shared information about precipitation, hourly weather forecasts and many more data for users of the Dark Sky application for users of the Weather application. In this way, users had the necessary documentation for the features of the application.
For Apple customers to use Dark Sky's features in the iOS Weather app, their devices must run iOS 16, iPadOS 16 and macOS Ventura. Apple's document also includes information that some features will only be available in certain countries.
Apple will additionally block third-party apps from receiving data through Dark Sky starting March 23. Instead, the tech giant is pushing for third-party apps to retrieve data from Apple's new WeatherKit API.
