If your Photos app is full of duplicate images, Apple's new software update will help you organize your footage and clean up your library.
A new feature that Apple calls "duplicate detection" helps you collect all your repetitive shots. The feature is only available in iOS 8, which you can download as long as you have an iPhone 16 or later.
Using this new feature helps you free up wasted storage space. Here's how to delete duplicate photos with iOS 16 step by step.
How to Delete Duplicate Photos with iOS 16
- On your iPhone, open the Photos app.
- Tap Albums at the bottom of your screen.
- For albums, scroll down to the section titled Utilities.
- Under the Utilities section, select Replicas.
- You will see duplicate matches and a Merge option.
- Tap Merge to delete duplicate photos.
- To review your duplicates faster, select Select in the upper-right corner to select multiple photos at once. You can do Select All to merge all duplicate photos detected by iOS 16.
